New Year's Eve!

Feliz Ano Nuevo or Happy New Year! December 31st was a day full of celebration. The day began with a trip to Cayey to swim in the beautiful natural pool made by the river, and ended with a bang at Brava nightclub in Isla Verde. To begin, I must mention the two hour bus ride to the mountains in Cayey that allowed the majority a nice nap after being up by 8am for the day. For those of us who managed to stay awake, the view going up through the twists and turns of the mountain was breathtaking. After a minor bathroom crisis (locked bathrooms + two hour bus ride = problems) we made our way through to the water. Being up in the mountains meant more mild temperatures which discouraged a few of us to fully immerse ourselves in the water (brrr), but we all got to take in the beauty of the clear water and beautiful waterfall. Our next stop was lunch at a food stand on the side of the road where we were able to experience lechon asado which is roasted pig and very delicious. After another two hour nap on the bus ride home we were dropped off and given time to prepare for our New Year’s Eve plans.

As a group we decided to purchase tickets to a nightclub party at Brava and after hours of preparation we arrived at an amazing party. We danced non-stop from 10pm-3am (if you don’t believe me, you can check the blisters) and rang in the new year with a bang. I was very excited to be able to celebrate the New Year and Puerto Rico and had an amazing time with my classmates, and I was also able to observe the Puerto Rican way of celebrating. Let me just say that Puerto Ricans can party. We left the club at 3 am and some people were just heading in, likely partying until 6am which is common in their culture. It was also interesting to see how beautifully everyone was dressed, we’ve been told that
Puerto Ricans are fashion minded people and they sure proved it. I am so grateful to have been able to celebrate the New Year in Puerto Rico and with my fellow classmates and am starting to think I may need to make this a tradition!
